Information We Collect Through Automatic Data Collection Technologies
As you navigate and interact with the Service, we use automatic data collection technologies—such as cookies, device identifiers, mobile analytics technologies, tags, and similar tools—to collect certain information about your device, interactions, and usage patterns. This may include:
- details of your use of the Service, such as screens viewed, features used, navigation paths, timestamps, and interaction data;
- device and connection information, including IP address (which may indicate approximate location), device identifiers, operating system, hardware characteristics, and network information;
- preferences associated with your use of the Service, such as language settings or in-app choices;
- diagnostic information, such as crash reports, error details, and performance data.
If you grant permission through your device settings, we may also collect precise location information through GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and other device-based location technologies.
These technologies help us operate, maintain, and improve the Service, including by estimating usage patterns, storing user preferences, customizing features, recognizing returning users, and improving performance. Information collected automatically may be associated with personal information we collect directly from you.
We use these technologies ourselves and also allow analytics and service providers to use them on our behalf to help us understand usage trends and administer the Service. These providers may also collect or receive information as described in their own privacy policies, and, where applicable, may use that information for their own purposes—including cross-app or cross-site tracking—if you have granted the necessary permissions on your device. We do not automatically access or collect photographs, videos, audio files, contact lists, or other files stored on your device unless you choose to upload them through the Service.
Cookies and Similar Technologies
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to improve functionality, store preferences, and analyze usage. A cookie is a small text file placed on your browser when you visit a website. You may refuse or delete cookies through your browser settings; however, disabling cookies may affect certain features or functionality of the website.
We may use first-party and third-party cookies for purposes such as authentication, storing preferences, analytics, and site performance. Third-party service providers, including analytics providers, may also place or read cookies in your browser as described in their own privacy policies.
The App does not use browser cookies, but it may use device identifiers and other technologies to provide similar functionality, such as storing in-app preferences or collecting usage information.
For more information about managing cookies, refer to your browser’s help documentation.
Web Beacons
Our website may use small electronic files known as web beacons (also referred to as clear gifs, pixel tags, or single-pixel gifs). These are standard website technologies that allow us to understand basic information such as whether a page was visited, how users navigate the site, or whether an email was delivered successfully.
These technologies may be used in connection with basic site analytics or to ensure the proper operation and performance of our website. Web beacons can collect limited information such as the time a page was visited, the device or browser type, or the referring webpage.
We do not use web beacons in our transactional emails, and we do not use web beacons for targeted advertising, cross-site tracking, or remarketing.
Some third-party service providers that support the operation of our website (such as analytics or hosting providers) may also use similar technologies as part of their services. Those providers process information in accordance with their own privacy policies.
Log Files
As is true of most Services, we may gather certain information automatically and store it in log files. This information includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, operating system, date/time stamp, and clickstream data. We may link this automatically collected data to other information we collect about you.
On-Device Storage
The App may store certain information locally on your device to support core functionality, improve performance, maintain your preferences, or enable specific features. This may include cached data, configuration data, or other information needed to operate the App.
Information stored on your device remains there unless it is transmitted to our systems as part of your use of the Service or you delete it by removing the App or resetting your device’s local storage settings.
Analytics and Advertising
We use Google Analytics for Firebase to collect and process aggregated information about how the application is accessed and used. This may include device and technical data such as device model, operating system version, language and region settings, time zone, approximate location, app version, usage metrics, performance data, and event-level information about interactions within the application. This information is used for service analytics, performance monitoring, and product improvement.
Depending on your device’s operating system and the permissions you provide, Firebase Analytics may access an advertising identifier (such as the Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) on iOS or the Google Advertising ID on Android). If permission is not granted, Firebase Analytics operates without access to such identifiers.
We also use Google AdMob to display advertisements. Advertising identifiers and related signals may be used to deliver personalized advertising where permitted by your device settings, system-level consent, or regional privacy requirements. If you decline tracking, opt out of data sharing, or otherwise restrict personalized advertising, AdMob will deliver non-personalized ads instead.
Depending on your region, you may have access to additional privacy choices, such as reviewing consent for personalized ads or opting out of the sale or sharing of personal information. These settings can be accessed through the in-app Privacy Options screen, where you may review or change your advertising preferences at any time. Some advertising and tracking controls may also be available through your device’s system settings.
Google processes information collected through Firebase Analytics and AdMob according to its own privacy policies, available at: https://policies.google.com/privacy.
Third-Party Use of Cookies
The App uses third-party advertising and analytics services, such as Google AdMob, to display advertisements and measure their performance. These services may collect information about your device and usage of the App, and, where permitted by your device settings or system-level consent, may use advertising identifiers and other technologies to personalize ads or measure their effectiveness.
These third-party providers may process the information they collect in accordance with their own privacy policies. We do not control their tracking technologies or how they may use information once it is collected.
Our website does not display third-party advertisements and does not use third-party advertising cookies.
If you have questions about an advertisement or how a third-party advertising provider handles your information, please refer to that provider’s privacy policy.

Accessing and Correcting Your Information
You may review and update certain personal information by logging into the App and visiting your account profile or settings pages.
The App includes a Manage Data section that allows you to download your data or delete certain non-essential data (such as historical location data) that the Service no longer requires. Some data, such as location history, may also be automatically deleted after a defined retention period as part of our regular operations.
Data download and data-deletion requests may take time to process. If you delete your account before a pending request has completed, we may be unable to fulfill that request.
You may also contact us at support@stopgap.io to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information that you have provided to us. For security purposes, we may require you to verify your identity before processing any such request.
When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify personal information associated with your account, subject to limited retention that may be required for legal, security, fraud-prevention, or recordkeeping purposes. Certain system logs and backup copies may persist temporarily as part of routine system integrity and audit processes.
We may decline a request to modify or delete information if we believe doing so would violate law, impair the integrity or security of the Service, or cause the information to be incorrect.
If you delete your User Contributions, copies may still exist in system backups, cached or archived pages, or may have been retained by other users (e.g., screenshots or forwarded content). We cannot control the use or storage of information that other users have already accessed.
Residents of certain jurisdictions may have additional rights related to access, deletion, or control of their personal information. Please see the “Your Rights” section for more information.
Your Rights
Depending on your place of residence, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information under applicable privacy laws. These rights may include the ability to:
- Confirm whether we process your personal information.
- Access and obtain a copy of your personal information.
- Request deletion of certain personal information.
- Request correction of inaccurate personal information.
- Request portability of personal information that you provided to us.
- Opt out of the processing of your personal information for:
- targeted or personalized advertising,
- the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information (as defined by applicable law), or
- profiling in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.
- Limit or require consent for the processing of certain categories of sensitive personal information, where required by law.
The availability and scope of these rights may vary based on your jurisdiction and the nature of your interactions with the Service.
To exercise any of these rights or to appeal a decision related to a consumer rights request, please contact us at privacy@stopgap.io. We may request additional information to verify your identity before processing your request.
If you reside in a jurisdiction that provides additional opt-out rights regarding the “sale” of personal information, you may exercise those rights by contacting privacy@stopgap.io. We do not sell personal information as that term is defined under most privacy laws, but we will honor applicable opt-out requests where required.
Data Security
We take reasonable and appropriate measures designed to protect your personal information from accidental loss and from unauthorized access, use, alteration, or disclosure. This includes a combination of administrative, technical, and physical safeguards such as encryption, access controls, and network protections. Information you provide to us is stored on secured systems protected by safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the data.
We use encryption to protect information transmitted to and from the App and website. Although we work to protect your information, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
The security of your information also depends on you. If you use a password to access your account, you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of that password and for restricting access to your device. You should not share your password with anyone, and you should choose a strong, unique password to help protect your account.
Certain information you upload to the Service—such as profile photos and other publicly visible content—is always accessible to other users and may be publicly viewable. Once content is publicly visible, we cannot control how other users or third parties may access, save, copy, index, store, or distribute it. You should carefully consider what you choose to upload, as we cannot guarantee the security or privacy of information once it has been made public.
Information you share privately with other users—such as messages—may be visible to those users according to your use of the Service. Once another user has accessed, saved, or copied that information, we cannot control how they may use or store it.
Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we do our best to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of your personal information transmitted to our Service. Any transmission of personal information is at your own risk. We are not responsible for circumvention of any privacy settings or security measures contained on the Service.
Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as necessary to operate the Service, provide features to you, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. The length of time we keep different categories of information depends on the nature of the data and how it is used.
- Account Information:
Personal information associated with your account is retained until you delete your account. You may update or remove certain profile details at any time through the App; however, full deletion of account information occurs only when your account is deleted. - Location Data:
Precise location data collected through your device is automatically deleted after 6 months. You may also delete your historical location data at any time through the Manage Data section of the App. Device-level permissions affect future collection. - Messages and Chat Content:
Messages exchanged with other users are retained only for the duration of an active chat. When a chat is ended (by either participant), message content is deleted from our systems shortly afterward as part of our standard operations. Copies saved or captured by other users are outside of our control. - User Contributions and Public Profile Content:
Information that you choose to share publicly—such as profile photos or other visible profile details—remains available until you remove or modify it, or until your account is deleted. Content that was previously viewed or saved by others may persist outside our control. - Logs, Diagnostics, and Usage Data:
Server logs, Firebase crash reports, analytics events, and security-related data are retained for a limited period to support system integrity, troubleshooting, auditing, and abuse prevention. - Backups and System Copies:
Information stored in system backups may persist temporarily after deletion as part of routine backup and disaster recovery practices. Backup data is automatically overwritten on a rolling basis and is not used for active processing.
After your account is deleted, we delete or de-identify your personal information, except where retention is required by law, necessary for fraud prevention or safety, or needed for legitimate business purposes such as recordkeeping.
Changes to Our Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, Service features, or legal requirements. When we make changes, we will post the updated Privacy Policy on this page and revise the “Last Modified” date at the top of the Policy.
For material changes that affect how we collect, use, or disclose personal information, we may also provide additional notice within the App or on our website, such as an in-app notification or a prominent notice on the website.
Your continued use of the Service after any changes to this Privacy Policy constitutes acceptance of those changes.

CONSUMER HEALTH DATA
We do not intentionally collect, use, or process information for the purpose of identifying or inferring your physical or mental health status, and we do not design the Service to collect “consumer health data” as defined by certain state laws.
Some jurisdictions define “consumer health data” broadly, and it is possible that information you choose to provide—such as profile information or content you upload—could be interpreted as consumer health data under those laws. In such cases, we treat that information as personal information and process it only as described in this Privacy Policy.
Information that may be considered consumer health data under applicable law is used solely to operate, maintain, and provide the Service, including enabling user profiles, supporting core features, moderating content, ensuring security, and delivering the functionality you request.
We may disclose information that could fall under these definitions only as necessary for the following purposes:
- Other Users.
When you choose to upload or display information in your profile or otherwise make information visible within the App, that information is shared with other users as part of normal Service functionality. - Service Providers.
To third-party providers that support Service operations, such as hosting, infrastructure, analytics, security, and content moderation. These providers process information on our behalf and only as necessary to perform their functions. - Business Transactions.
In connection with a merger, acquisition, asset transfer, financing, bankruptcy, or similar business transaction, consistent with the “Business Transfers” section above. - Legal Compliance and Safety.
To comply with applicable laws or legal processes (including subpoenas, warrants, court orders, regulatory inquiries, and law enforcement requests), to detect or prevent fraud or illegal activity, to protect the rights or safety of any person, or to defend against legal claims.
We do not sell consumer health data or use it for targeted advertising.
Sensitive Personal Information
Certain personal information we collect may be classified as “sensitive personal information” under applicable privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA). Depending on the jurisdiction and context, sensitive personal information may include, but is not limited to:
- Precise geolocation, when you grant your device permission for the App to access location services.
- Image data analyzed by automated tools for purposes such as detecting faces or moderating content.
- Profile information you provide that may relate to personal appearance or characteristics.
- The content of messages or communications sent through the Service.
We use sensitive personal information solely to operate, maintain, secure, and provide the features of the Service, and to support safety and content moderation. We do not use this information to infer characteristics about you, and we do not use sensitive personal information for targeted advertising or for purposes unrelated to the operation of the Service.
We do not collect government identifiers such as Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, or other official ID numbers.
We do not “sell” or “share” sensitive personal information as those terms are defined under applicable privacy laws.
Service Use from Outside the United States
Our Service is generally intended for individuals located within the United States. Please be aware that our Website and App servers and our service providers may be located outside of your state, province or country. As a result, some of your personal information may be collected, used, transferred, maintained, disclosed and stored outside of your state, province or country.
EU, EEA, UK, and Swiss Users
Advertising and Consent Requirements
For users located in the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom (UK), and Switzerland, certain third-party services used within the App—such as Google AdMob—require compliance with the Google EU User Consent Policy. These services may request consent for the use of cookies, advertising identifiers, or similar technologies used for personalized or non-personalized advertising.
When required by Google or other third-party providers, the App will display a consent dialog that allows users in these regions to make choices about how their data is used for advertising-related purposes. Your selections in this dialog will be honored by the App and by the third-party services that rely on it. The processing of personal information by Google and other third-party providers is governed by their own privacy policies and consent mechanisms.
Regional Privacy Rights
Users located in the EU, EEA, UK, and Switzerland may have additional rights regarding their personal information under local privacy laws. These may include the ability to request access, correction, deletion, portability of personal information, or to withdraw consent where applicable. Users in these regions may also have the right to lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority.
International Transfers
By using the Service, users in these regions acknowledge that their personal information may be transferred to and processed in countries that may not provide the same level of data protection as their home jurisdiction, including the United States. We take reasonable and appropriate measures designed to protect personal information during such transfers.
To exercise applicable rights or submit privacy-related inquiries, you may contact us at privacy@stopgap.io. We may request additional information to verify your identity before processing your request.
